First of all, I’m absolutely addicted to your podcast! I’ve learned so much from you guys, but I still want to learn more. Who are some of your favorite pagan authors? I’m interested in Celtic paganism and eclectic Wicca. I don’t really know any authors besides Silver Ravenwolf. I also have “Exploring Wicca” by Lady Sabrina and “Celtic Myth & Magic” by Edain McCoy. Who would you recommend. I’m looking for something that will tell me about pagan beliefs but also teach me how to think for myself regarding ritual and such. I also want to learn more about energy work. Thanks for your help!

Hey guys, I gotta say, I love this show!

I found it by chance while looking for new PodCasts to entertain me at work, and I’m glad I started listening. You guys do awesome work, and you’ve taught me a good amount that I didn’t know before, and given me ideas of what to learn more about.

As a Kemetic worshiper, I was hoping at some point perhaps you’d talk more about it. I’m still new to the scene, and am trying to find more information about it. Being in the middle of the Bible Belt rather limits my access to religion outside of Christian types.

Even if you don’t, I’ll gladly keep listening! Keep up the amazing work!

    Hey everyone,

I was wondering if it would possible to discuss “coming out of the closet” in the religious/spiritual sense. Due to the fact that I live in the Buckle of the Bible Belt (Dallas, TX. Hi from DFW, Dave!), I am curious about ways of broaching this topic when many people around you are “I will tie you down and beat you with my Bible if you don’t agree with me” Christians.

Also, love the show. It makes me feel a lot better about the world knowing that there are other people that can have fun but still intelligent discussions about Paganism. Keep up the good work, you guys rock!

Lead Topic

  • Empathy (suggested by someone Amber knows)
    • “Normal” Empathy vs. Animal Empathy?
    • Plant Empathy
    • Affects of Empathy on the Empath

Ego Stroking

  • Holly left a note in the Episode 73 show notes indicating it was Seattle that was the first city to have its ley lines mapped. Thanks!

Topics of Discussion

  • Finding Local Pagan Groups
    • Meetup.com vs. Yahoo Groups vs. Witchvox (some locales use one more than the other)
  • Should Paganism be lumped together as a single community and for statistical purposes? Inspired by Wild Hunt Blog entry stating that Pagan Unity can force people to want to disassociate from Paganism to make up their own groups such as the Goddessians. PCP Effect: Voltron Reference
I think a problem (though surely not the only problem) with the notion of “Pagan unity” that leads to groups wanting to completely disassociate, is that it assumes that “Paganism” is a sort of ur-religion that, like Voltron, is constructed of lesser parts. Leading some to inaccurately portray religions like Asatru and Wicca as “denominations” of Paganism. When instead we should be seen as a diverse movement that shares some commonalities in practice and community. We are (at best) a coalition, not a unified whole, and any attempt to rally us to a cause or goal should take that into account.

Weekly Segments:

  • WAME POT: From Fark: Archbishop of Canterbury is at it again, says Christian doctrine is offensive to Muslims, adding “then again, what isn’t?”
  • For Further Listening
    • Title of Show: Spoken Lore - Weekly podcast readings of the Eddas and Sagas. From the same folks that do RavenCast.
    • Entertaining - “Keeps ya hooked” (/10): 7
    • Educational - “Taught me something, got me thinking” (/10): 9
    • Audio Quality (/10): 9
    • Notes: I knew the folks from Ravencast made this podcast coming into this. I remember Ravencast Episode 5 or so where there was a very powerful reading of a story with sound effects and great oration. I was expecting this. Well, my expectations were not met so I was a bit disappointed. This is more a books on tape version of the Eddas and Sagas rather than something deeply emotional and powerful. Maybe someone may get around to doing this in a quality way rather than strictly focusing on quantity.
