1I know they love other religions. They have a lot of pentacles in their animes. Mostly a symbolism for spirit and air, which is bizarre on a manhole cover.

2Oh, and also just a sign of magical power. It also has the representation of the five Japanese elements.
Air/Wind(Fu)
Water(Sui) Sky/Void/Heaven(Ku) Fire(Ka)
Earth(Chi)
And that is what I could find on it. Same positioning of all other pentagrams.
